Airport Utility Stopped Detecting Airport Express in Windows 8

For some reason my Airport Utility 5.6.1 being used in Window 8 (on a dell tower less that a year old) has stopped detecting my Base Station. Power was interrupted, and while this has happened before with no problem once power was restored, this time all I get from my base is the flashing amber light. My iPhone detects my GUEST wifi connection, but not my main one.

What's up here?

The bonjour service in the PC can be off.. and have gone to needing a manual start.

This is old software and apple are clearly uninterested in updating windows.

You will do better downloading the airport utility for iOS and run the setup from your iphone..

Redo the setup after a factory reset.. and store the configuration.. although I am not entirely sure on iphone how export configuration will work.

Have you reset the express to factory.. since the iphone cannot detect the main wireless.. you MUST do this.

Start over.. if the win8 computer still fails.. it can be network.. ping the IP of the Express.. does that work?? If it works by IP try by name.. failure by name means the dns is not working and itunes will fail.

Are you using all SMB naming convention?? Apple will recommend names that do not work or work badly on a PC.

All network names should be short.. say 10 characters, no spaces and pure alphanumerics.. no apostrophe.

Password as above but 8-20 characters mixed case and numbers.

A computer is not needed to reset the AirPort.

Power off the AirPort for a minute or two

Hold in the reset button on the Express first.....and keep holding it in for another 7-8 seconds.....while you simultaneously plug the power back into the AirPort

Release the reset button after the 7-8 second hold

Allow a full minute for the AirPort to restart to a slow, blinking amber light status

The AirPort has now been reset to factory default settings.
